On the trail and loving it

I’ve long had this fantasy of riding singletrack — the kind we rip on bikes — on a motorcycle. Just swooping through the woods, left right up down brap braap braaaping along, so smooth, so flowy, so graceful.

If you’re trying to go fast, the only true measure is time. What feels fast is frequently slow, and vice versa. For example, riding sketchily feels fast, but riding smoothly is fast. You cannot trust feel. If you want to know whether one run is faster than the last, you must use a timer.

My orthopedist and I are becoming good buddies. He re-attached a ligament on my right thumb in mid July, and that has healed nicely. It’s sore and not very mobile, but right now it’s my good thumb.
