Reacquainting with the 20
Tomorrow I’m shooting the final photos for the book Pro BMX Skills. Stoked!
Today after I taught MTB at Lyons Bike Park, I planned the shots and reacquainted myself with the 20. Little! Quick! Fun!

You’re climbing hard and it feels easy.
You’re descending fast and it feels slow.
Our friend Rhys in Queensland switched from a medium Enduro to a large Epic. He’s loving the climbs but fearing the descents.
Lee,
Do you ever run into the problem of convincing kids, especially teens, to wear helmets when riding? I live in an area with zero “helmet culture.” I’ve a neighbor kid who likes to borrow my bike. But he despises helmets, no one in his peer group wears them, they are considered as “geeky,” he “never crashes,” etc. Putting my foot down is one thing, but changing the attitude and the local culture, that’s the interesting problem. I am wondering how to attack it.

Our man John fancies himself a smooth rider, yet he lost his pedal on a jump and broke his ankle. He’s searching for meaning in this disaster.
Today I rocked private clinic #2 with a junior female Cat 1 XC racer. She’s picking everything up really quickly, and today we got into some super-techy climbing skills. That was super fun, then she surprised me.
“Hey Lee, I want to practice crashing.”
Today I rolled the Tricross to the DMV then pinned it up Boulder Canyon, Four Mile Canyon, Poor Man and Sunshine Canyon to home. I’d rather rip singletrack, but there’s something horribly awesome about pedaling up a mountain as hard as you can.
This is cool: Some old farts are holding a vintage BMX race series at County Line BMX in Centennial, CO.
Your carcass has to be at least 30 years old. Your bike has to be at least 20 years old. Quill stems, caliper brakes and flat pedals are mandatory. If you don’t know what a caliper brake is, forget about it.
Yesterday two strange things happened involving skinny guys on bikes.
Check out this photo and video from a finish-line crash in stage 4 of the 2010 Tour de Suisse.
Last weekend I rocked a lecture and some drills with a group of future high school mountain bike coaches.
This was a fun time and a huge step in the mission to create a standard mountain bike curriculum.
Rock!
Hey all, don’t forget my public at the CU Research Park in Boulder this Saturday. It’s a great chance to learn titanium skills at an aluminum price.
The class runs noon to 3 p.m. and costs $50 with a copy of Mastering Mountain Bike Skills. We’ll cover all the basic skills — position, braking, turning, bumps — then do whatever the group wants.
