Back from SolVista

The weekend was shaping up nicely — sweet campsite, many friends, fun-looking courses — then, on our first run, Ian went OTB and broke his pinkie finger. Not just broke it: also twisted it 90 degrees. We got an X-ray in Granby then hauled ass back to Boulder to see our orthopedist. Ian gets surgery tomorrow. He will be pinned … but not the way were hoping.

Heading up to SolVista!

See y’all up there. Bring your hardtails for the after-hours Pump Track Worlds!

See you at SolVista?

This will be a big weekend:

– Lots of cool people. I look forward to seeing everyone. Since I haven’t been racing, I miss the madhouse.

– Lots of racing on cool courses. I’d love to race DH, but I didn’t qualify. I’d LOVE to race Super D, but …

– I’ll be pinned shooting photos for Mastering Mountain Bike Skills II. I have a list of like 80 shots to get this weekend, so I’ll be all over the place. If you see me on course, you better get those elbows out!

(I have to shoot the Super D start for a new section in the book. Hmm … can I shoot the first wave then jump into my group? …)

How cool that SolVista is hosting the national championships. Just two years ago, we were first breaking trail: SolVista bike park: It’s on

Sweet. See you up there!

Measurable braaap!

Riding = good. Riding fast = better.

Just got back from an XC ride with regional legend and all-around nice guy “Fast” Jon Watt. What a treat to ride at my own pace or — even better — a hair faster than my own pace.

Lots of pump track love in a small space

Hey Lee,

How much pump can you pack into a small space? More than you think. A few years ago you posted a few pics of my PT (sweet little Santa Barbara pump track) that I built weeks after seeing your first track. It has since gone through a few changes. As soon as you think you have it dialed, the mighty shovel starts screaming.

Thanks again for the initial inspiration. Here’s a video of the latest incarnation.

World Champion of Lyons Endurance Pump

Until today, our friend/rival Will at LateApex4Life held the record for 100 laps of Lyons pump. The jerk actually texted me right after his ride: “Will McDonald, June 27, 100 laps on Lyons pump track, 31:59.2”

OK Tough Guy, it’s ON!

Steep, loose downhill turns

Hi Lee, I’d like to start off by commending you on your book and website. It’s not common that you can become substantially better at a sport by merely reading up on it but thanks to you, it’s happened to me. Currently, however, I’ve been running into some difficulties that I’m hoping you can help remedy.
