Built and beautiful: Jrich’s pump track
At last, we have photos of AA BMX Pro Jason Richardson’s completed pump track. I would have given my left arm to ride this sod-bordered ribbon of love, but there was too much rain.

Hey Lee…..Just wondering if you know of any pump/jump spots in San Luis Obispo area of California. I am traveling there a week from today and I would like to hit some spots. I know of some great areas to MTB around but I am looking for the “other” kind of riding. : ) Trying to figure out what bike to bring.
Thanks – Ray, OKC
AA Pro BMXer Jason Richardson recently built a pump track using decomposed granite, and he says it’s working well.
This evening I stopped by The Fix for 100 Laps of Pump Track Love. The wind was crazy! I usually follow a Don’t Ask, Don’t Pedal policy, but there was no way to ride the uphill into the bluster.
In August I posted photos of a beautifully landscaped pump track made out of finely crushed rock, aka “compacted base rock fines.” Here’s a status report from Cynthia Tanyan of Mozaic Landscape design.
Lee,
I am in the planning stages for a pumptrack at our local trails and was wondering if the red dirt, like what is used for baseball diamonds, would work well for a track or should I stick with top soil.
Thanks,
Evan
This backyard pump track is as durable as it is beautiful. Welcome to Pump Track Nation!
Hey Lee.
I was wondering if you had any suggestions for a 14 year old girl, 5’7″, 140 lbs. pump track and free ride bikes. We kind of have a budget and can’t get too expensive. What bikes would you recommend?
And also, would a 20×30 space work for a small practice pump track? Or would we have to find a larger space?
Cherilyn
hi Lee, i purchased the ebook Welcome to Pump Track Nation a while back and am now scripting a proposal for our local parks. one concern is of course sustainability. i know that tracks treat their dirt with something to harden it up. do you know that is and have you used it?
thanks, john
With bike parks sprouting up in cities everywhere, we live in a wonderful time. Check out this gem in Leadville, CO.
Pump Track Nation is rolling stronger than ever. Here are a couple tasty examples, one from a pro BMXer and one from a pro landscaper.
I’m enjoying the fruits of a life lived with intention and love, but .. dangit … I miss my old pump track. That was the true casualty of my divorce.
