Heading up to SolVista!
See y’all up there. Bring your hardtails for the after-hours Pump Track Worlds!
Races, group rides and all that action.
See y’all up there. Bring your hardtails for the after-hours Pump Track Worlds!
This will be a big weekend:
– Lots of cool people. I look forward to seeing everyone. Since I haven’t been racing, I miss the madhouse.
– Lots of racing on cool courses. I’d love to race DH, but I didn’t qualify. I’d LOVE to race Super D, but …
– I’ll be pinned shooting photos for Mastering Mountain Bike Skills II. I have a list of like 80 shots to get this weekend, so I’ll be all over the place. If you see me on course, you better get those elbows out!
(I have to shoot the Super D start for a new section in the book. Hmm … can I shoot the first wave then jump into my group? …)
How cool that SolVista is hosting the national championships. Just two years ago, we were first breaking trail: SolVista bike park: It’s on
Sweet. See you up there!
I am beyond tired right now, but I will say this: 1. We got the park built on time. 2. This week has been VERY rainy. 3. This morning we got everything dry (with picks, shovels, pumps, brooms, sunshine and Doug’s helicopter). 4. This afternoon’s event went off awesomely. Lots of happy people riding their bikes.
– Matt Cordova won the DJ comp. Nick Simcik won the “Spirit of the Games” award with a couple sweet backflips (after a dozen attempts).
– Jon Watt won Pump Track Worlds. Brandon Turman second. Me third.
Thanks again to everyone who made this possible.
More details to come.
Anyone have photos from the pump track, DJ comp or general riding? I’d really appreciate some. Full props of course!
Saturday Saturday Saturday! The new Lyons Bike Park will host a Short Track, Pump Track Worlds then a Dirt Jump Comp.
Come on out to ride, compete and/or watch.
Man, I wish I could rock the 2009 Ranchstyle this weekend, April 25 and 26. Local, grassroots feel with a pair of sweet looking courses.

Hey Lee,
At the start of the Sea Otter downhill there are 4? short beeps and then one long beep. When does the actual timing of your race run start? Can you go anytime during those beeps or is it after the long beep finishes?
Thanks,
Brian
Hi Lee,
I am a big fan of your website and book (with BL). The fountain of information has definitely made biking a lot more fun. Thanks a lot man. Anyway I am just a recreational rider but I love to watch local DH and XC races here in the Philippines. I noticed though that race participants are still crudely timed manually via radios or cellphones and can’t help but wonder if this is accurate enough considering that a difference of less than 1 second can spell the difference between podium finish and not. I wonder what sort of timing devices and techniques are used in US or UCI DH and XC races.

Hansen Dy

hey lee-
i am super lucky and super psyched. i’ve been invited to do an indoor mtb timetrial at ray’s indoor bike park in ohio.
2009 Tri-Flow XC Indoor Challenge at Ray’s Indoor MTB Park
was wondering if you’ve ever ridden there and if you have any advice. i’m racing my hardtail which i feel pretty good on. per the website, the course sounds like mostly xc riding and 2 technical lines. don’t know what you could say, but thought i’d ask. i’m reviewing mastering mountain bike skills by some guy l. mccormack as we speak.;)
thanks!

Read it at your own peril. I make no apologies!

Pretty sweet.
Two noteworthy developments: 1) Big fundraiser for Tara Llanes. 2) The rescue of the endangered Sand Hill Ranch.
