Hey Lee, I am trying to replace my busted headset and I bought a new 1 1/8″ HS, but it didn’t fit, so I look at the website and it says internal cup 1 1/8″. What in the world is a internal cup headset?

I need some help. My 11 year old son wants a new bike. He’s been saving his money and I pay half, so we are looking at bikes in the $1000 to $1500 range. The big question is what size to get? Read more

Hey. So do you think a longer stem would make the bars turn funny, bunny hopping awkward and going over the bars more likely, or would it just give me more front wheel traction without affecting other stuff?
Thanks again,
Alex

Love your book, love your site and can’t wait for the DVD. I have a question for you.
I have an 2007 Giant Anthem 1. I have recently started racing XC. I was toying with the idea of purchasing an Anthem Advance but have come up with this question. I am 6’2 and currently ride an XL 22′ frame. I have recently lowered the seat after reading ur book and hearing interview and run a 100mm stem. Am I better to run a larger frame (XL) or go to a shorter frame (L) and run a longer stem?
If I ride a Large with a 120mm stem its pretty much the same length just the head tube length is shorter so I would need run higher bars etc.

Lee,
I am currently riding a Thomson 90mm w/5 degree rise on my 575 and have considered trying a shorter stem. Unfortunately none of my friends or any of the local shops have one for me to demo. I do, however, have a 2″ riser bar that I purchased at a swap meet but have never used. I am currently using a 1″ riser bar. My question is this: Couldn’t I achieve the same result installing the 2″ riser bar and adjusting the sweep back towards the saddle as I could by installing a 70mm stem?

where can i find info on the G3 at sol vista? we rode there yesterday… and all i’ve gotta say is…
it’s the BEST time i’ve ever had on my DH bike.. for real. i don’t remember that many smiles in a while. the trails are super well built with so much flow. and the jumps are incredible… high speed, no buck action…. i’m still glowing.

Hi Lee,
First of all, I would like to say thank you for your reviews of the new Specialized tires. It’s been very difficult to find info about them anywhere else.
Secondly, I was wondering if you might happen to know the weight in grams of the 2.3 Pinn’er Pro and the 2.5 Pin’it Pro?
I am looking for something new to try for Downieville, CA and these tires seem like they could be a great fit. However, although the trail that I will be riding in Downieville is approximately 90% downhill, the XC side in me would still like something that climbs fairly well, won’t way me down like an anchor and doesn’t roll like a complete snail. Anything over 850/900 grams is probably more than I need.
My final question is if you feel that these tires have fairly durable/sturdy sidewalls?
Thanks a lot for your help and again for the great reviews!
Hi Lee, I just want to thank you for answering my recent questions about 4x racing! You have helped me with decision and other things too. Snowmass last weekend was great! Reading your book and putting it to use helped me qualify 1st in Junior beginner men 13-14. I would say that I have used your web site as online coaching. thanks, Dustin

I just got an RM 125 that I plan to use a lot at the MX course in Berthoud. I have never ridden a dirt bike before and I was wondering how the dirt jumps feel with throttle? What are the similarities to regular dirt jumping? Do you hold the throttle all the way up the lip and is there any “pumping†that you do? Once in the air do you always let off the throttle?
Also, when railing berms, or turns in general, do you let off throttle?

First of all, I want to thank you for your site. It has been an excellent source of information for me and my co-riders.
I know you are riding the enduro sl and I’m having trouble with size. I’m 5’11” with a 31″ inseam and I have heard that I need a large for one bike shop and a medium from another. I’ll be riding all the front range stuff and usually take 3 trips or so a year to Keystone. I’ve ridden them both around and the large seems a bit big but I sit pretty upright on the medium. I’m really confused about size and it seems that I’m right between the two sizes. Since I know you ride the Endo SL and you live in CO I thought you might be able to help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Also, is your site the only place to buy your Mastering Mtn Biking Skills book?
First of all, great site. Secondly, on my Enduro SL I often have a problem with my chain bouncing off the middle ring to the small ring when riding rough terrain. Also, sometimes when I shift from the middle ring to the small ring, the lower part of the chain bounces back up and gets stuck between the frame and big ring. Any suggestions and have you experienced this on your SL.
