Using brakes in mid air

Lee,

(This is a comment re: Controlling mid-air rotation.) Wow this is great – I am 35 and trying to improve my jumping as well – it is good to hear of other people not in their early twenties trying to get “new school.”

My question is regarding using your brakes while in the air: I heard you can drop your front or rear wheel using your front or rear brake in the air. Is this correct? if so, what are the physics behind it?

Drops: Staying on flat pedals

Lee,

I am learning to ride flats after 13 years of clip-in pedals. Things are going pretty well except I often totally lose contact with the pedals on sizable drop offs. I am trying to keep the front pedal pointed at 2PM and the rear pedal pointed down, but I still lose contact. Any advice? What am I doing wrong?

Crank length for 4X bike

Hi Lee, my name is Daniel and I’m from Colombia.

Could you give me your advice about a doubt I have??

I’m gonna buy a pair of cranks, and I practice 4X and have a hardtail, what size of cranks are best for me? 170mm or 175mm? I’m 5’8″.

Thank you and hope you write back soon.

Handlebar length for DJ/urban riding

Lee,

I have a question. What width handle bars do you prefer. I am riding a hard tail with 24″ wheels. I just put a set of FSA DH400 bars on and they are crazy wide 28″ from the factory. What would you recommend for dirt jumping and urban riding?

Thanks
Rich (from Virginia)

Why do full suspension bikes rail?

Hey Lee,

This may be a dumb question, but what’s the physics behind why a full suspension rails better than a hardtail? It intuitively makes sense but I was wondering why it works better. Thanks.

Trail bike for a tall guy

Hi Lee,

I am helping my friend find a trail bike – the catch is he’s 6’6″ and about 220lbs. While one of the fantastic customs from Lennard Zinn would be great, he can’t really spend almost 4 grand. …

Lateral dominance issues
