Do the pros ride the same bikes we ride?

Lee,
I was wondering if when I see for example Darren Berrecloth in ROAM, does he really ride on Spec SX trail? That SX trail which I can buy from my local dealer?? or is it kinda special SX- only Darren- trail?;) The same for example with Gee Atherton rockin’ on Reign in Anti Gravity 2?…couse..if it can handle Gee or Darren for sure it will handle me;)
Greetings for new year from Poland 😉

Indoor training: How much recovery for 30-second sprints?

Lee,
Great article (Indoor training: Do this once a week). I have been doing a very similar type of sprint training. The only difference is that I do 30 seconds all out and 1 minute rest (you recommend more recovery time; is a shorter time worse/harder for you or your body?).

Weights and sprints on the same day?

Hey Lee, thanks for the indoor training article.

I’ll look to integrate your ideas with the DB Combo program at the start of Jan. when I make my monthly adjustments.

Any thoughts on doing the intervals before or after weight training?

Cheers Greg

I need help in flat turns!

Hey Lee,
I was on your site a while back with places to ride your DH bike. Anyway I purchased a Demo 7 1. I can rail berms — Kessel Run in Fruita was incredible. I pull myself forward and down in berms — works great — but when I try this in flat corners I get all balled up. Especially in right turns. I ride left foot forward if that helps. I tighten up, can’t barely make it and usually end up in a bush. What am I doing wrong?

Bike riding: A sweet tax deduction?

Lee,
If you are a pro, can you deduct bike related stuff on your taxes? I always wondered what you could get away with.
Thanks.

Moto: Bridging the gap between mini and full size

Lee,
I am 39 years old, 5 foot 7 at 135 pounds and live in California (green/red sticker). I got a used little 1998 kx80 a year ago to see if I like dirt biking.

Of course I do, so now I need a bigger bike but a 125/250 seem too big for me. I can just barely tippy toe when sitting on one. I know people way smaller than me ride full size bikes and I should be on a full size bike, but I guess I am just intimidated by the size and power of the bike.

Do you think I should get a kx 100 or get the full size bike?

Finding the right gear

This was first posted Oct. 21, 2005.

Hello Lee

When pedaling on a DH I’m often in the false (too light or heavy) gear so I thought about how pros do it. Do they plan their shifting, e.g. “before the 5th corner I have to shift to 4th gear?” Or how do they manage to be in the right gear?

Cornering: Range of motion with flat pedals

Sticky shoes and quality flat pedals can restrict your on-pedal movement more than clip-in shoes and pedals. If you’re used to a little float, you might feel confined in your 5.10s. Bruce in Vancouver is feeling the pinch.
