Short track and saddle height

Lee, Dude your clinics rock! I’m ridding so much better then I ever have and thinking about the sick skills you teach every time I’m ripping singletrack…Attack Position! I’ve got a question regarding Short Track and Saddle Height.

I’ve had a bike fit and the shop set the saddle height (and body position) for correct comfort as well to rock cross country racing and for optimal power output (at least that’s what i thought it was for).

When I raced Short Track I lowered my saddle because I was concerned about the cornering. I wanted to be able to rip the corners faster then the other racers and also absorb all the little kickers. It worked pretty good as I passed several racers in the corners and when I wasn’t behind someone I was able to rock the corners and absorb the kickers fast (thanks to applying your mad mtb clinic skills).

Anyways, my question is am I sacrificing efficient power output by lowering my saddle during a $hort Track race?

Thanks dude, looking fwd to clinic #3. Happy Trails
-Farid

FOX rear shock on Enduro SL?

Hi Lee,

I heard a rumor that you are running a Fox DHX-Air on your Enduro SL. I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind giving some info on that rear shock.

What size i-2-i and stroke are you using? Any special hardware or adapters needed to run that shock instead of the stock AFR shock? Are you running it in the low/slack or tall/steep setting? And, last and most importantly, how does it ride? Have you had a chance to compare it to the AFR shock from Specialized?

Thanks a lot,
Dan

Same gear ratio with a smaller ring?

Hi Lee,
I just got a Black Market MOB and want to run a gear ratio (single speed) as close to 36-17 as I can, but with a smaller front and rear sprocket. Can you tell me how to compute this or just tell me what the closest is?

Drugs in downhill?

Lee,

Just an observation I’d like to share.

Perhaps downhilling will be the salvation of cycling in the eyes of sponsors and the general viewing public as it is the only cycling discipline that the use of drugs is not an advantage. Or not so much of an advantage.

Every other discipline needs either explosive power or endurance, but in DH the most talented guy that gets the most luck is going to win (especially if you take the chain off like they often do in Cairns, Australia, home of Mick Hannah and Chris Kovarik).

Maybe you could throw the question out to readers: Anyone ever take drugs to DH faster? Know of anyone that did? Did it make a difference?

Chris.

“My quads hurt” — Use your hips!

Hey, Lee. For the past couple of months my quads have been killing me on long descents. I’m having a hard time figuring out why, as it doesn’t happen on climbs, even when I’m standing for a long time.

Switching among bikes

Lee,
First off I must say that you website is a daily visit for me and I appreciate all the time and effort you put into it.

I have been biking steadily for just over 2 years now. I started with a Kona Shred and now I have an 05 Bighit FSR as well since I discovered my passion for extreme sports carries over to DH as well. My problem is that when I switch between the bikes they feel so different that I almost kill myself in certain scenarios. Do
multi bike owners try to keep to specific hardware or configuration to avoid this feeling? Will I eventually get used to the feeling? Any tips or tricks are greatly appreciated.

Thx Lee.

Pump track question: Stacking dirt too high?

I am preparing to build a track like yours.”lee’s pump track” With a high water table I have to import dirt. I’ve made my french drains, and planed it all out. I saw a video clip of yours and got concerned. If I import dirt should I expect to see my track close to twice as tall as yours? that would be fine but will it ride as fast? I want to feel confident that if I spend a dump truck load of money on 8 dump truck loads of dirt that I will have a track that rips.
