Overcoming fear of jumps

Hey, I was wondering how I could ever face my fear of jumps. When I was 12, I ate major sh*t and got the breath knocked out of me for what felt like an hour. Ever since then, I have always been hesitant do jumps/drops. I know I have the skill to jump, but I can’t overcome this fear inside me. How should I get back in the air?

MMBSii will be here next week!

Mastering Mountain Bike Skills 2nd Edition arrived at the publisher’s yesterday. My copies should be here early next week, then I’ll start sending ’em to everyone who pre-ordered.

MMBSii is a huge evolution from MMBSi. I can’t wait to hold the finished product (and send it out)!

Finding a good skills coach

Lee,

Since I’m not going to make it to CO and it doesn’t appear your coming to New England anytime soon I have one simple question:

How does a rider find a knowledgeable mountain bike instructor/coach in their area?

At face value this seems like an easy questions but the more research I’ve do on local “instructors”, the more questions I have.
There are two or three options within New England. Each of these options have instructors that have long resumes of wins in various events throughout the country. But my experience (from the snow sports industry) is that
being a good athlete doesn’t necessarily make you a good coach.

Do you have any suggested “interview” questions for a potential coach?

In the end, I hate laying down my hard-earned cash for a sub par instruction.

Sincerely,
Chad

Tomorrow: Ranchstyle clinic!

I got home from Sea Otter Tuesday night. I cared for Mommy and The Twins, did some work, washed everything, packed back up, and here I am two nights later camping at a ranch outside Grand Junction, CO.

Tomorrow I’m rocking the skills clinic at the Ranchstyle event. Reporting from the idling Sprinter:

Training for Sea Otter (sort of)

I just spent three hours digging around for the lid to my septic tank. You know I’m only doing that because sewage is backing up into my house.

This training session targeted anxiety, core stability and strength endurance. Perfect prep for building the Sea Otter pro pump track (and hopefully racing too).

Rock.

Testing the off-mountain training

It’s been the toughest but most awesome winter of my life. I did tons of work, finished two books and helped create and maintain two humans. That meant six months of training “off the mountain.”
