Lee,
I never thought I could learn so much from a book about mountain biking! My cornering has improved incredibly after reading (and re-reading countless times) the section on railing.
There’s something I’m trying to figure out, though. If you watch Andrew Shandro and others in The Collective and Roam you’ll see the riders cornering with their butts off to the outside of the turn. There seems to be more going on than just leaning the bike more than the body, but I can’t quite figure out the dynamics. What gives?

Been pinned all day with tax and mortgage stuff, and I need to spread some quick love. This was originally posted March 21, 2004.
Summary: If you train in a rounded and expansive way, racing will never shock you.

Hi Lee,
I am a great fan of your book and website. I think you are genius in explaining and putting the right photos.
I have been practicing wheelies, following your book’s advices. The problem is that I can’t lean back to keep the wheelie going. I can only do 5 or 6 pedal strokes and that’s it. Very sad… I have a feeling that this is probably due to my fear of falling back on my back??? not sure. Do you have any advice or trick to conquer my problem? I really appreciate anything you can advice me. Thank you!!!!

Ever since I started using James Wilson’s highly detailed Ultimate MTB Workout Program, I’ve been asking him for a simpler workout that can be followed by a dummy with minimal time and equipment. The MTB DB Combo Workout Program is his clever answer.

Hey Lee,
I was wondering what are the benefits of braking in the air, or what is the purpose?

Rob is a snowbound thirty-plus 4X racer, and he’s looking for some 4X training advice. In a nutshell: Consider the essential components. Mix them up to suit your lifestyle.
It’s been said that the better you get at bike riding, the worse you get at everything else. If your legs are used to spinning light circles, and you suddenly try a more impactful sport, you might be asking for trouble. A cautionary tale:

You might recall that I’ve been carrying rocks around my neighborhood. I don’t have much patience for indoor exercise, and I enjoy working everything — strength, stability, endurance — at once. I’ve been rocking this workout for the past three weeks.
Hey lee. I’ve been trying relentlessly to figure out how to manual. For months I can’t seem to get my front wheel high enough, but when I do, I tend to get sideways and lose balance and tip to the side. My pals say I look like I’m too high up but when I get low, I cant seem to lift the wheel.. HELP!! I want so bad to master this trick.
