What’s with this turndown action?

Hi Lee,
I have a question I was hoping you could answer. In a lot of the videos I’ve been watching lately, I notice racers cutting sharply across the lip of a jump. What and how are they doing? It seems they do this to keep low, how does this work?
Thanks! Eric

Shallow vs. steep jumps

Hey Lee.
I’m trying to learn to jump. Some jumps are just hard to figure out.
E.G. One wide jump that has two different jump face. One side has a shallow take off. Right next to it is a steeper take off. I have no problem on the shallow take off. I have problems on the steeper take off. My FS bike seems to lose a lot of energy on the steeper side. Is the technique different for various types of jumps?

Manuals: Help, I’m tipping over!

Hey Lee,

Love your site and the book, great work on both mate.

I guess this has probably been done to death but im having alot of trouble with manuals and wheelies. Getting the front up and balancing front to back is easy, my problem is I always tip over sideways! People say move your hips and stuff, which ive tried…but once I start to go I just cant correct it.

Any ideas?

Cheers, Ash

Jumping: big rider with suspension

Hi Lee,

The bigger they are the harder they fall. Or jump.

So I’ve just found the local jump spot and I want to start building up my jump-fu. There’s a bunch of jumps from 2ft high table tops to 6ft high doubles and so a nice learning curve, but my question is this. As a heavy rider (+230lbs) riding a full squishy is there anything different I need to be doing to get airborne? I got your book and that’s been a lot of help, but I’m guessing I’m not going to able to lift the bike as easily as the 150lbs bmx/hardtail riders I see sailing through the air. More speed? More compression and release on the up ramp?

Cheers, Marz
